Transportation Department

WELCOME to the Fort Worth Independent School District Transportation Department website. Our mission is to provide your students with safe, reliable, timely and efficient transportation to and from school, field trips, athletic events and other extra-curricular school activities.
You can expect that we will do everything in our power to keep children safe. Our drivers will be well trained. Our vehicles will be maintained by experienced, qualified mechanics. No bus will ever leave any bus yard without being clean and inspected. When you call our office, we will strive to resolve your concern or answer your question as quickly as we can, with courtesy and professionalism.
The main Transportation Department office is open and available to answer your questions Monday through Friday, from 5:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. The main phone number is 817-815-7910. This number may be used after regular business hours, as long as there are buses on the road or in the event of an emergency. The Safety & Security phone number that is answered 24 hours is 817-814-2680.
Fort Worth ISD students are eligible to ride Fort Worth ISD buses if they live within the boundaries of the District and meet certain other requirements as outlined in Board Policy CNA:
-
Live two miles or more from the assigned school, including a special interest school (Gold Seal), to which the student has applied and has been accepted, or
-
Be a Special Education student, age 3 through 21, whose disabilities prevent the use of regular transportation.
Currently bus route information is available at the student’s home school. We are working to make this information more conveniently available online.
The Fort Worth ISD operates the third largest bus transportation fleet in North Texas behind only Dallas County Schools and Dallas Area Rapid Transit.

The District operates the largest fleet or hybrid school buses in the nation. Currently, we have 25 charge-sustaining hybrid electric/diesel buses purchased through the 2007 Capital Improvement Bond package and with additional funding provided by the U.S. Department of Energy.
More recently purchased buses have approximately 90% less emissions than the older buses. As a result, FWISD has installed emission reduction equipment on 239 older buses through a grant from the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ). Our buses are on a 12 year replacement schedule.
