Graduation Requirements

Students plan their high school schedules based on core subjects plus a specialization related to career and educational goals. Each specialization, or career pathway, includes courses to prepare students for post-high school education. Whenever possible, students should investigate the requirements of any college they are considering and include those requirements in their program of study. Students review their graduation plans annually with professional school counselors to make changes, additions and updates to align with the students' personal and professional goals.

Students must also pass the exit-level Texas Assessment of Knowledge and Skills (TAKS) test, first given in the spring of the 10th grade, to receive a diploma. To receive a diploma from a particular high school, transfer students must complete their last year of work at that school. Students should consult with their school counselor to develop personal career and educational plans.

For students with disabilities who wish to participate in the graduation ceremony with age-appropriate peers but not graduate until age 22, the admission, review, and dismissal (ARD) committee shall determine the appropriateness of their participation in the graduation ceremony based on District guidelines. These students may return to school for continuation of their individualized education program (IEP) as prescribed by an ARD decision.
