South Hills High School opened its doors just 10 years ago. The land and buildings had belonged to a private school before being purchased by Fort Worth ISD. South Hills was a freshmen-only campus that first year with close to 400 students in attendance. The ninth-graders took an active role in shaping their school, helping to write its alma mater, picking the mascot (Scorpions) and choosing the school colors (black, silver and white).

One class was added each year during the next three years making the class of 2002 the first to graduate from South Hills. The 2000 bond election allowed South Hills to expand to its present size. Among the additions was the two-story “G” Building, which houses the school’s large auditorium, band and choir rooms, the main office and 33 classrooms.

South Hills High’s motto is, “The Scorpion Way: Courtesy, Dignity and Respect.”
