It is with great excitement and pride that the Dunbar Sixth Grade Administration, Faculty, Staff and Students announes our first “Family First Friday” or “Bring Your Parent to School Day” on Friday, March 6, 2009. 

Yes- that’s right- we are inviting our parents to attend a FULL day of school with their son or daughter following his or her schedule side by side.  Walk the halls, attend and participate in classes, enjoy a special lunch in the school library, get books from the locker… truly experience their child’s day-to-day responsibilities. 

“Why?” might you ask- It’s simple… 

• It is important for our Dunbar Sixth Grade community of educators, school staff, parents and students to be unified in continuing to develop our wonderful school and maintain our TEA Recognized status. 
• We want to assist in building a bridge between parents and students to foster an atmosphere of learning and understanding
• We believe parental involvement is very important and ongoing research has shown that parental involvement improves student achievement, reduces absenteeism and restores confidence both in children and parents in regard to education
• We trust they will enjoy being in our classrooms for a hands-on experience of what a day is like for their child
• We have a great deal of confidence in the skills of our teaching staff and we want our parents to have a firsthand view of what Dunbar Sixth Grade has to offer
• We are proud of the quality programs, the teaching and learning that takes place every day and the ongoing accomplishments and dedication of our students
• It is our hope that new and stronger connections will be made as parents gain a new perspective of their child’s day and together we will let our children/students see our family places value in their education
