  • Pre-K Registration and Literacy Fair Success!

    NONE                                none

Fort Worth ISD had a great and successful Literacy Fair last weekend to facilitate the registration of four-year-olds in Pre-K.  In addition to being able to register their kids for Pre-K, families also learned about the many District departments and community agencies that offer resources for our students and families.  Furthermore, children had fun playing educational games and reading.

These are changing and exciting times as the 100x25 FWTX Initiative is kicking into high gear. The goal of the Initiative is to have 100 percent of third-graders reading on or above grade level by the year 2025 (which is when children born today will be third graders). It is being carried out in partnership with FWISD, the City of Fort Worth as well as the business sector and involves several strategic pieces in order to achieve its goal.  It requires parents being engaged; children to faithfully attend Pre-K and Kindergarten; providing support and aid to families; volunteers helping in schools; and much more.  It also requires a change in our expectations, in the way we relate to our children and our schools, and the way our City and its citizens support education. For all those reasons, you will see many more literacy fairs and literary events being held all over the City. Fort Worth ISD is leading the way!

Change also brings with it opportunities! Everyone – parents, businesses and average citizens - should not waste the opportunity to be part of these events and to learn from them.  Involvement can be done in many easy ways; attending the literacy events; passing on information among our colleagues and friends; posting them in our social media; volunteering; simply making sure we read to kids every chance we get and making sure they develop a love for books and reading. The choice is yours…what kind of quality of life do you want your community to have in the future and how do you want to contribute to making it happen? It’s been said that it takes an educated workforce in order to have a great city, so let’s not waste any time.
