LeaderKids Community Service Project benefits FWISD Leadership Academy at Maude I. Logan
Fort Worth, Texas - On May 16, 2017, fifty 8th grade students who are part of LeaderKids joined forces with 30 community volunteers to complete a service project for Fort Worth ISD Leadership Academy at Maude Logan.
LeaderKids is a program of the Leadership Fort Worth and was created in 1995. Two eighth grade students from each FWISD middle school are selected each fall by counselors and participate throughout the year, with the culmination of a service project each May. The students explore leadership practices, education and career opportunities and practice teamwork and collaboration. All of the completed projects are designed by the students, with guidance and approval from the community volunteers and campus administrator.
Volunteers included adults from TCU, Capital One, Fidelity Investments, Leadership Fort Worth, FWISD art teachers, and other neighborhood stakeholders. Projects that were competed were hallway murals, with an emphasis on the enjoyment of reading, wooden benches, bookcases, an outside mural on gym depicting the school mascot, and enhancement of the front landscaping.
The day ended with a celebration of accomplishment, dinner, and a tour of the completed projects for those who visited the campus. The middle school students planned for success, learned how to build consensus, and recognized the value of partnerships….all for the benefit of FWISD elementary students.
