Degrees and Certifications:
I am so happy, and grateful, to be the principal at Alice Carlson. 2018 starts my fifth year working with some of the best teachers, parents and, especially, students that can be found anywhere. I grew up in Fort Worth, the fourth child in a family of five. Both my parents were educators: my mom was a PE teacher and my father was a coach. I have two sisters who are educators. Teaching definitely runs in my family. I am married to Arthur Harris who is a Coordinator with FWISD. We have three children and 3 grandchildren. Our youngest son, Will, went to elementary school at Alice Carlson and my husband was a math coach here.
After graduating from R. L. Paschal High School, I was off to Austin to attend The University of Texas. I earned a Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education with a concentration in Reading and an endorsement in Kindergarten. I taught kindergarten for 8 years at Oak Hill Elementary in southwest Austin. I returned to Fort Worth where I was able to teach different grade levels and take advantage of several educational experiences. I earned my ESL certification, graduate hours in reading and an endorsement in Gifted Education through FWISD. I then went to The University of Connecticut to earn my Masters of Arts in Educational Psychology. I spent 13 years at the administration building as the Elementary Coordinator for Advanced Academics.
I thankfully landed at Alice Carlson when Jeannie Robinson, the former principal, retired. I have been in education for 34 years and I am still learning the craft of teaching. One of the many things I love about our school is that we strive to grow by continuing to learn the best way to do our job.
I love spending time at home with my husband as we are “empty nesters”. I also enjoy when my grandchildren come to visit. Grandparenting is the best!! I like paper crafts, doodling, and going to the movies. I also LOVE my job and the children I get to see every day. (It is wonderful to be able to say that.)
