Welcome to the Literacy Department
Our goal is to provide professional learning opportunities and coaching support for teachers and instructional leaders. Our students deserve the best, and it is up to each of us independently and collectively to provide our students with authentic learning opportunities and expert feedback.
Because literacy development depends on the interconnection between reading and writing, our approach to classroom instruction is based on Transactional Literacy. Simply put, we must teach our students to read like writers and write like readers.
Reading at home
Fort Worth ISD is encouraging all students to continue reading at home and in the weekends using Smarty Ants and Achieve 3000 reading programs at home or "on the go." Your child is already familiar with these programs and has used them in class. Many may already be using them away from the classroom. These "home editions' are available right now and will be all summer long.
Smarty Ants is an effective, research-driven program that focuses on building the foundational literacy skills for young learners. Achieve3000 is a rapid elementary and secondary intervention solution that provides effective blended learning with a combination of teacher-led instruction and independent student work.
Parents, you can help by adding just twenty minutes of reading into your child's day! Visit the links below for more information on the benefits of summer reading:
