Private Nonprofit School Equitable Services

  • FWISD Grants Logo

The Elementary and Secondary Education Act, reauthorized as the Every Student Succeeds Act in 2015, requires LEAs that receive federal funds to provide equitable services for eligible private nonprofit school students, teachers, and other educational personnel. Equitable services must be designed to meet the educational needs of eligible private nonprofit school students and supplement the educational services provided by private nonprofit schools. After consultation, private nonprofit schools may receive equitable services under Title I Part A, Title I Part C, Title II, Title III, and Title IV Parts A and B. The LEA must spend the funds on behalf of the private schools.

Fort Worth ISD provides Title I, II, III, and IV equitable services to private nonprofit schools through a Shared Services Agreement with ESC Region 11. Staff from ESC Region 11 consult with private nonprofit school officials throughout the year and administer the programs. Questions? Call Corya Campbell at 817.740.3639.

    ESSER I

The CARES Act of 2020 requires local education agencies that receive federal funds to provide equitable services for students and teachers at private nonprofit schools within the LEA’s geographic boundaries. Equitable services must be designed to meet the needs of private nonprofit schools, as expressed during meaningful consultation. Fort Worth ISD is providing equitable services to private nonprofit schools with Elementary and Secondary School Emergency Relief (ESSER I) funds.

Fort Worth ISD used multiple methods to identify private schools within its geographic boundaries, and on June 4, 2020, Fort Worth ISD sent a survey via email to these schools. On June 17, 2020, Fort Worth ISD posted the survey on its home page. On July 14, 2020, Fort Worth ISD hosted a webinar for private nonprofit schools to discuss ESSER I equitable services. Fort Worth ISD held ESSER I initial consultations with private nonprofit schools July 15-22, 2020.
