Lt. Gen Michael Langley nominated to lead AFRICOM
Posted by Class of 1980 on 6/16/2022Lt. Gen Michael Langley (WHHS class of ‘80) has been nominated by President Biden to lead AFRICOM. Once the Senate confirms him, he’ll be in line to be the first African-American four-star General in Marine Corps history. Lt. Gen Langley’s nomination to lead a combatant command is a huge accomplishment on its own. The U.S Africa Command is one of eleven combatant commands in the Department of Defense.

Posted by Class of 1980 on 1/17/2021Major General Michael E. Langley, played football and graduated from Western Hills High School in 1980.
Major General Michael E. Langley, one of only seven Black general officers in the Marine Corps, assumed command in November of Marine missions in Europe and Africa.
“MARFOREUR/AF is a varsity team and I’m excited to lead some of the most professional Marines in the Corps,” Langley said in a statement. “Together we will continue to assure our Allies and partners, deter our enemies, and maintain the high standards expected of us as Marines and Sailors in the finest fighting institution in the world.”

Second Lieutenant Valentin Hinojosa (Class of 2014)
Posted by 2014 on 5/31/2019MSgt Joe Ayala represented us this week at the USAF Academy and presented the “First Salute” to newly commissioned Second Lieutenant Valentin Hinojosa (2014 WHHS graduate and former Cadet and Group Commander of our AFJROTC unit) upon receiving his commission as one of the newest officers in the USAF. MSgt Ayala will share more however it impressed me when he stated our Commander In Chief, when presented the option of saluting and shaking the hands of just a representative number of graduates, the President opted to shake the hands and salute each and all of the 900-plus graduates, stating they all had the right to his respect!

Class of 1999 Donation
Posted by 1999 on 11/9/2018The WHHS class of 1999 recently held its 20-year class reunion and collected funds from those classmates in order to help the current students at Western Hills High School. Sarah (Cartwright) Jung, a member of the class of 1999, was instrumental in collecting the money. Mrs. Jung presented WHHS with a check in the amount of $1,550.00. Current students Serena Nguyen, Yana Begma, Bailey Robinson and Jonathon Morgan were present to help Mrs. Flores accept the check.
