Felton Love
Felton D. Love has dedicatedly served the Southeast Fort Worth community for over 20 years during which he has assisted clients, now friends, from all walks of life. Felton has had the privilege and honor to attend to others on their most momentous occasions, from first haircuts, to Prom, and Grooms before their vows, to those last haircuts into eternity.
As Felton has watched many of his clients grow from youth to young men, his service has gone well beyond just a haircut to meaningful conversations with his clients about life’s most challenging issues in hopes that they would prayerfully leave with more options than before they came, or simply comforted by a lending ear.
Felton’s services have not been limited to male clientele, but women as well. Whether they’re just wanting a new look or health demanded a change, he has always endeavored to give his very best to ensure that everyone leaves his chair feeling better about themselves or their current situation than they did before their visit.
Felton’s services have always gone above and beyond Hair Doctors #2’s doors. His service has reached many schools through outreach serving those in need by cutting students’ hair on the spot. Nursing homes are no stranger to Felton, nor hospital rooms or home visits if called upon. He has served the homeless to restore what may have been stripped away by life challenges.
As an instructor and life-long learner himself, Felton is passionate about literacy and learning, and he is one of seven inaugural barbers to partner with the Fort Worth Independent School District’s Reading with Barbers Program (RWB). Felton encourages his patrons of all ages to read and he provides incentives for their efforts. “Attitudes and temperaments are improved when students are successful, and I know that RWB is impacting literacy.”
Felton recalls a student at his school who could not read, and to assist the student Felton asked him to arrive early daily to practice his reading. The young man was nervous at first, but through his dedication and Felton’s unwavering support, the young man has improved his reading, his test scores, and is well on his way to becoming a licensed barber.
What began merely as an opportunity to change how Felton made his living has now become a calling to serve within and beyond the walls of his business. So, whether Felton is cutting a first-time haircut or helping tie a bow tie for prom and beyond, he is determined to give the best of himself and to share the gift that God has so gracefully given to him with those he has had the honor of meeting and serving.

Jajuan Johnson
Jajuan Johnson Sr. was born and raised in the Stop Six Community in Fort Worth, Texas, where he currently lives and works as the co-owner of Kay’s Barbershop. He has been a barber for 27 years, where he serves as a mentor to those who encounter him. His philosophy is that he does not want the people he loves and cares about to make the same mistakes as he early in life. This passion is part of the reason why Mr. Johnson decided to become part of the Reading with Barbers program. He enjoys helping others with reading because he understands how important it is to be successful in life.
Mr. Johnson was inspired to become a barber being he wanted to be an entrepreneur and wanted to work for himself. His customers enjoy a professional atmosphere focused on making everyone feel welcomed when they enter, which makes Kay’s Barbershop a great place to promote reading. Mr. Jajuan Johnson is always looking for ways to better himself and his community through financial growth, and physical and mental health. He encourages those around him to push for greatness rather than settle for mediocracy.

Roger Foggle
Roger Foggle’s Aunt Marilyn Jennings inspired him to become a barber at the age of twenty-eight; becoming a barber was not part of his plan. He only became a barber to get his aunt off his back. During this time, Roger was in the streets doing the devil’s work and his Aunt saw something in him that he did not. He thanks God for the love and pressure that Aunt Marilyn bestowed upon him. Roger is proud of the life lessons and tough love he experienced over nineteen years ago; he is now a respected professional barber in the community, motivational speaker, a free and accepted mason, a member of Bethany church, and advocate in the community.
Roger is passionate about the “Reading with Barbers” program because it is about helping young males of color, ages 4-14 to improve literacy skills and the program offers barbers an opportunity to mentor students through life’s challenges.
Roger believes barbershops are a great place to reinforce literacy skills and great opportunity to support Fort Worth Independent School District’s 100x25 initiative. The community describes his shop as kid friendly, a great place for the community, and a shop that is committed to grooming readers and leaders.
Tyrone Malone
Tyrone Malone is a licensed barber by the state of Texas. He is the owner of Millennium Cuts Hair Studio and has provided services since January of 2001. He was inspired to become a barber because of the power that a barber possesses; the power to put a smile on a client’s face is a feeling like none other and the love and positive feedback generated by a talent that only God could provide.
Millennium Cuts is an establishment built of old school values with a hip-hop twist to keep the younger generation involved. The initiative, “READING WITH BARBERS" (RWB), has inspired him in a similar way in which barbering has the power once again to put a smile on the face of young males of color between the ages of 4-14. He uses the power of mentorship in forms of reading assistance, encouragement, and emphasizing the proper articulation of words. The experiences and mentorship gained through his time spent with these young males will remain as a positive experience for a lifetime. He wholeheartedly believes in an old Korean proverb, “Teach a man to fish and he will eat for a lifetime, but giving him a fish will only provide food for a day.”
Tyrone believes barbershops are the best community forums to support literacy awareness; everyone from all walks of life visit the barbershop. Cedric the Entertainer quoted, “barbershops are a black man's country club”.
In order to get the youth involved, Tyrone simply asks joking questions to break the ice and to build a relationship with students. They eventually begin reading with integrity and purpose. He listens for key elements like pronunciation, articulation, and understanding. Then, he takes mental notes as what to concentrate on or bring to the attention of the parent. As a result, we have been able to make reading fun, cool and an accepted achievement.
After implementing RWB at Millennium Cuts, the environment is more controlled and productive. Tyrone is committed to finding more fellow barbershop owners to implement this model in their businesses.
