Mrs. Kristin Kishanuk - Math Instructional Coach

 

Mrs. Kishanuk went to Adelphi University, where she obtained her Master's Degree in Childhood Education and a Bachelor's Degree in Psychology. She is originally from New York, which is where she started her career in teaching. Once she moved to Texas, she became a teacher at Sunrise McMillian Elementary where she taught 5th Grade Math and Science for 5 years. This is her 5th year as an Instructional Coach. Previous to this school year, she was an Instructional Coach at T.A. Sims Elementary. She enjoys spending time with her family and friends, traveling anywhere she can enjoy the outdoors and history, and doing DIY/crafting projects.

Ms. Laneta Spivey - Literacy Instructional Coach

 

Miss Laneta Spivey has been with FWISD for over 14 years. During that time, she has been an English Language Arts Teacher, Reading Specialist, Lead Content Teacher, and Instructional Coach. Her favorite part of being in education is helping students develop a love of reading and writing. Miss Spivey holds a Bachelor’s degree from University of Texas at Arlington and is currently pursuing a Masters’ degree in Educational Leadership from Texas Wesleyan University.

Miss Spivey has a wonderful dog named Simba and a number of nieces and nephews she adores. In her free time, she enjoys reading, traveling, and spending time with friends and family.

Dr. Barbara F. Dowell - Librarian

 

Dr. Barbara F. Dowell is the new school teacher-librarian at Sunrise McMillan Elementary. She began her career as an educator after graduating from Prairie View A & M University in 1982. Her early teaching career began at Wilmer Hutchins High school where she taught for 6 years. Ms. Dowell transitioned to the Dallas ISD in 1998, teaching high school and middle school Social Studies. Later in 2006, she graduated from Texas Women’s University with a master’s degree In Library Science.

Upon graduating from library school, she became the school teacher librarian in Dallas ISD, where she served for 14 years. In 2019, Dr. Dowell earned an Ed. D degree from Walden University in Adult Education and Higher Learning. She is married and has 3 adult children, and 3 grandchildren. She has always been resourceful, focused, and highly motivated, which has assisted her in achieving her educational goals.

Dr. Dowell has always had a love for learning and a curiosity about the wonders of the world. Her favorite adult book is “Becoming,” a memoir by Michelle Obama. Her favorite children’s books are anything written by Eric Carle. Dr. Dowell loves to travel, shop, read, discover new things, and decorate. She is also a collector of anything watermelon, snow globes, and antiques.

Ms. Dixon is starting her 3rd year as a School Counselor here at Sunrise McMillan and her 7th year as an educator with FWISD. Ms. Dixon taught Kindergarten prior to becoming a School Counselor. Originally from Omaha, Nebraska, she has lived in Texas for 10 years. Ms. Dixon received her Master's in Counseling from Texas Wesleyan and is currently working toward completing her hours to become a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC).

Ms. Jaleesa Dunn - Student Support Interventionist

 

Ms. Dunn is from Union Spring, Alabama, an area that is rich in culture and historical significance. She is an avid reader and enjoys reading in her spare time. Ms. Dunn is passionate about improving the emotional health of the students and realized through previous work experiences than an improvement in emotional health often results in an improvement of academic performance. She has an eclectic background as a social worker that includes medical case management, public health, child welfare, crisis intervention and psychotherapeutic services.

Ms. Dunn serves the students and parents of Sunrise McMillan as the Intervention Specialist. She provides assistance to the students and parents that assist with meeting the social, emotional, and behavioral concerns that impacts the student’s performance. Ms. Dunn provides support to families with resource linkage and the identification and implementation of effective coping skills to support the further development of positive self-regulation. This is her third school year with the Jaguar Family and she looks forward to continuing to serve the students, staff, and parents of Sunrise McMillan!

Ms. Carolyn Young - Case Manager, LMSW

 

Ms. Young received her Masters of Social Work from Baylor University in 2012, and her Bachelors of Science in Criminal Justice from University of Baltimore in 2004.

Ms. Carolyn Young was assigned to Sunrise McMillan in January, 2020. She has worked as a Social Worker in FWISD School System, for the last two years. Ms. Young has worked many areas of Social Work but discovered working with students to be quite rewarding. Ms. Young would like to share one of her most rewarding experiences, which was traveling to Accra, West Africa in 2018. She provided school supplies, food, and haircuts to children living in an orphanage outside the city.

She is grateful to be part of Sunrise McMillan Elementary School and is available to assist students and families with any resources or needs

Mrs. Brytani Golightly serves as the Sunrise McMillan School Secretary. She is a native of Fort Worth, TX and a proud alumnus of Dunbar High School. Mrs. Golightly earned her Bachelor’s degree from Prairie View A&M University. She has been with FWISD since 2009 and at Sunrise McMillan since 2015.

Mrs. Golightly decided to work with FWISD because she has a passion for advocating for families and students. She enjoys learning new things and meeting new people.

Ms. Michelle Hopper became Sunrise-McMillan’s School Nurse in 2018. Nurse Hopper started her career working in the hospital in 1996 for BJC Health System in St. Louis and then the THR System here in Fort Worth. Nurse Hopper attended college at Utica College of Syracuse University and has lived in several different states as part of a military family. Today she enjoys spending time with grand-babies, visiting lots of family back in St. Louis, and loves to garden.

Mrs. Mitchell was born and raised in Odessa, TX and graduated from Ector High School. She attended Texas Tech University where she received her undergraduate degree in July of 1987. Mrs. Mitchell and her family moved to Fort Worth in July of 2012. She started her journey at Sunrise McMillan in August 2012.

Mrs. Mitchell loves to travel, shop, try new eateries, and hang with family. She has worked over 21 years in the Social Service capacity. Her passion is helping others to succeed in life.

Mrs. Lewis joined Sunrise McMillan Elementary in 2010 as a paraprofessional to 3rd through 5th grade math teachers. She uses real life experience to help students grasp math concepts that are relevant to them. She is married and has two adult children. She enjoys improving her skills as a seamstress via Threads Magazine and other resources. Mrs. Lewis believes that family time is a must, and spending quality time with them doing things together like vacationing, attending church, game nights, movie nights, and family meetings are at the top of her list.
