Deborah Aspegren, Assistant Principal
I am proud to be serving as an Assistant Principal for my 7th year at Leonard Middle School. I am starting my 16th year as an Educator. I love serving our families, students, and teachers. Middle School is where my heart is.
I studied at Austin Peay State University at Clarksville, Tennessee before earning my Bachelor’s degree from Tarleton State University at Stephenville, Texas. I obtained my Master’s Degree in Leadership and Policy Studies from the University of Texas at Arlington. I love learning and am constantly reading up on leadership, the latest best practices, and technology integration. A couple of my favorite authors are John Maxwell and Jon Gordon.
I have always served in Title I schools, where the children need us the most. I started my teaching career in White Settlement ISD before joining the FWISD. I was a math teacher at William James Middle School for 7 years where I taught 6-8th grade math and served as the department leader before joining the Leonard administrative team. I coached my children’s cheerleading, baseball, and softball teams when they were younger.
I firmly believe that all students are capable of learning. I have high expectations for myself as well as others. I love supporting teachers who support struggling students. I believe a growth and inclusive mindset will help children develop into successful adults. One’s present circumstances are not an indicator of potential and do not determine one’s destination.
I’m raising my grandson Bryden who keeps me busy. I like to bike and jog. Being in nature brings me peace.
Undoubtedly, this year will be different than any others. Nevertheless, we are excited to welcome students. We are all here to help your child improve and achieve. Let this be a remarkable year!
