Mrs. Evelyn Ortega

2nd Grade Teacher

Mrs. Ortega teaches 2nd grade dual language at Versia L Williams Elementary school. Mrs. Ortega was born and raised in Puerto Rico. She attended The University of Puerto Rico where she graduated with an associate’s degree in Industrial Engineering Technology and a bachelor’s degree in Materials Management. She also has an MBA and is a Ph. D. Candidate in Entrepreneurship and Business Development with a major in International Business. As she grew up in the business world her love for teaching others became a high priority for her.

 
 Mrs. Ortega is a person with a high appreciation of diversity and has a multicultural mindset. As a bilingual educator, her primary goal is to help the students in their path to be successful at mastering the state curriculum requirements. She is a mother of 2 young adults and 2 Pitbulls. In her leisure time, she loves to travel and connect with diverse people around the world.

Mrs. Barnes

2nd Grade Teacher

This is Mrs. Barnes’ fourteenth-year teaching. She has spent the bulk of her teaching career at Versia Williams Elementary School. She has taught prekindergarten, kindergarten, first, second, third, and fifth grade. Additionally, she serves as the Literacy Content lead and grade level lead. She had also received the honor of being selected as the 2021-2022 Teacher of the Year. Additionally, Mrs. Barnes is a member of the Division of Equity and Excellence in Education team. She is a graduate of The University of Texas at Arlington. Her favorite educational quote is “Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world (Nelson Mandela).
