The Western Hills High School Boys soccer teams opened District play last night, delayed by a day due to Tuesday’s weather, with a clean sweep of the Eastern Hills Highlanders on a chilly night at the Western Hills field in front of some brave supporters, including a few staff members.

The JV Boys opened things with a tight 1-0 victory. Cesar Hinojos Varela scored the only goal of the match. Diego Hernández Natal put in a solid shift in attack, while Uriel Bravo Garrido did the same in midfield. Wilfredo Recanoj Vasquez, Marcos Escobar and Luis Martínez Méndez helped Landon Cox record the shutout, the team’s fourth of the season.

In the nightcap, Yeshua Muhindo and Emmanuel Nshimiyimana scored off assists from Anthony Juanes and Guadalupe Roman as the Cougars controlled the match from start to finish. Wilondja Ebula and Hector Palomares were solid in midfield, and Hakizimana Changwe, Gustavo Riveros and Daniel Msenga helped stifle the rare Eastern Hills attack.

The Cougars will travel to Carter-Riverside on Friday before returning home to play Benbrook on Tuesday.

  • Clean Sweep of Alvarado

Posted by Coach Collins on 1/11/2023

Your Western Hills Boys Soccer teams celebrated a clean sweep of Alvarado last night on our field.

The JV Boys bounced back from a 2-0 defeat to South Hills last Friday with a solid 2-0 victory of their own in a very physical match. Goalkeepers Landon Cox and Aaron Nava Flores combined for the shutout, helped by the solid back line pairing of Carlos Muñoz and Kevin Jimenez.

Omar Banda, Uriel Bravo Garrido and Cesar Hinojos Varela were outstanding in the midfield. Uriel opened the scoring for the Cougars, and Cesar added the second before halftime. The trio were instrumental in the Cougars controlling the match in the second half.

The Varsity Boys remained undefeated, going to 4-0 on the season with a 2-1 comeback victory on the heels of Friday’s 8-1 thrashing of Chisholm Trail.

After falling behind 1-0 on a free-kick goal, the Cougars regrouped, and despite hitting the post or crossbar 3 times, the team did not let up. The breakthrough finally came when Emmanuel Nshimiyimana scored on an assist from Hector Palomares just before halftime. Gustavo Riveros gave the Cougars the lead for good early in the second half, and Western Hills’ relentless pressure kept Alvarado on its heels until the final minute.

Hakizimana Changwe and Daniel Msenga anchored the defensive effort with help from Anthony Perez and Cruz Hernandez. Guadalupe “Fuser” Roman Figueroa was stellar in the midfield.

The teams both head to Life Waxahachie School tomorrow and Friday before hosting the Weatherford Kangaroos here on our field on Tuesday. JV will kick off at 6 pm, followed by Varsity at 7:30.

The Cougars Boys soccer teams played two tough opponents last week on the road and, despite some solid performances and gritty play, were unable to get the results they hoped for.

On Tuesday, the teams traveled to Carter-Riverside.

The JV boys played to a hard-fought 0-0 draw despite losing key players to illness and injury. Henry Degante played well and courageously at various positions, Marcos Escobar and Kevin Jimenez were solid in defense, Bryan Vasquez and Angel Salazar were threats in attack, and Landon Cox recorded his second straight shutout.

The Varsity suffered only their second defeat in District play, falling by a score of 1-0. Gustavo Riveros came close to scoring, Alex Vargas was stout in the midfield, and Alexis Bautista led a hard-working defense.

On Friday, the teams traveled to Diamond Hill-Jarvis.

The JV boys fell by a score of 2-0, the team’s first defeat since January 21. Jordi Solis, who was injured in the Carter match, returned to action and was outstanding in defense. Andrew Peña-Espinoza, out sick for several days, came back and anchored a midfield that helped the Cougars dominate the second half, and Bryan Vasquez and Angel Salazar once again forced the opposing goalkeeper into several outstanding saves.

The Varsity boys fell by the same 2-0 scoreline. Emmanuel Nshimiyimana blistered the DHJ defense, Wilondja Ebula led the second half charge, and Daniel Msenga put in a Man of the Match performance, playing two positions.

The JV team’s record is now 6 wins, 3 losses, 6 draws.
