Posted by Coach Collins on 3/8/2021

The Western Hills boys varsity soccer team finished a season sweep of Benbrook High School with a thrilling 2-1 victory Friday at Benbrook that was decided on penalty kicks.

Senior co-captain Jude Collins scored to give the Cougars the lead before halftime, and later made the clinching penalty kick.

After the Bobcats tied it early in the second half, senior co-captain David Chavez and junior Elikya Mapedano locked it down to prevent Benbrook from scoring again.

At the other end, seniors Amade Carimo and Jaime Talamantes came tantalizingly close to giving the Cougars the win in regulation.

In the penalty shootout, David Chavez, Amade Carimo and Alex Vargas bravely stepped up and converted, opening the door for Angel Ortiz to be the hero.  The junior goalkeeper stopped two of the four Bobcat kicks, before Jude Collins slammed his shot home to move the Cougars into second place in the district at 7-2.
