External (Out-of-District) Professional Learning
Teachers Only
From time to time, teachers and other district staff may attend professional learning outside of Fort Worth ISD. We call this external professional learning or out-of-district professional learning. External professional learning includes conferences, training, seminars, and consultants that provide professional learning to Fort Worth ISD employees.
The District uses the Approved External Professional Learning List to ensure that our learning and practices are aligned with the District’s goals and priorities. The list was vetted and approved by Fort Worth ISD professional learning providers and departments.
Teachers might want to receive FLEX credit after attending an approved external professional learning opportunity; they must provide the Professional Learning Department with details and a certificate of completion. On this page, you find the process for requesting FLEX Credit for Out-of-District Professional Learning. Scroll down for more information.
Principals/Supervisors Only
Principals and Supervisors should use the Approved External Professional Learning List when planning external professional learning (conferences, professional trips, or consultants). Before entering a requisition, check the Approved Professional Learning List (BELOW). If the learning opportunity is not on the approved list, use the Pre-Approval Process for External Professional Learning detailed below. If you plan conference attendance, organize external learning for your staff, or use a service provider identified on the Approved External Professional Learning List, skip the process outlined below and start by entering a requisition. To get started (Principals/Supervisors Only):
- Review the Approved External Professional Learning List (below).
- Use the appropriate process, identified below, that correlates with your needs.

In most cases, teachers that participate in external (out-ofdistrict) professional learning will receive Teacher-Selected FLEX. In most cases, teachers must accrue ALL District Content FLEX hours entirely through sessions hosted by their content area departments. Learning through an external provider WILL NOT BE APPROVED towards "District Content FLEX" without pre-approval from the teacher's Content Area Director or Executive Director
