The Read 2 Win Literacy Campaign is a collaboration between the Fort Worth ISD and Tarrant NET to engage faith-based community volunteers to help eliminate the literacy deficit of elementary school-aged students.
Keys to raising literacy rates are to:
• Partner a church with an elementary school
• Train and deploy 1,000 Volunteer Reading Mentors over the next 5 years
• Concentrate efforts on first graders
The strategy is simple but can be a powerful tool to help children learn to read, which is the basis for success in all other content areas!
For the 2016 - 2017 school year, 30 churches are focusing on 34 elementary schools and recruiting reading mentors for more than 400 first grade students.
