Fit Worth provided Health Educators from the Texas AgriLife Extension Service Expanded Food and Nutrition Program to interact with students and parents and demonstrate some healthy snacks and recipes.

Fort Worth Mayor Betsy Price drops in on a PE class to check out how students are meeting the Mayor's Challenge.
The annual Mayor's Challenge encourages students to eat more fruits and vegetables, drink more water, and read for pleasure.
Mark Greenwood is awarded the Blue Zones Project Chair for Teaching Excellence in Health & Physical Education for 2019-2020.

The FWISD Health & PE Department was very proud to have provided two sessions at our summer HPE conference recently held in San Marcos, TX. Cherrelle Tillis-White & Carmen Franco presented on "Making PE Accessible for All", and Chris Moore's session was "Forging New Pathways to Intentionally Include All Students in Our Spaces."

Fort Worth was recently funded for five years to address our students' health as well as to help provide a safe & supportive environment for them. The funding comes from DASH, the CDC’s Division of Adolescent School Health.
Our team met with districts all across the USA to learn about tools & resources to best provide our children with what they need to be productive & healthy citizens
It was mostly very serious work but we did get an opportunity to visit the David J. Sencer Museum and try on some Hazmat suits!

Professional Learning-August, 2018
Sessions reached most district teachers over three-day period. Concepts included the District's Learning Model, expectations, student outcomes, and activities that include lots of moderate-to-vigorous physical activity (MVPA).
Outdoor Equipment being installed over the summer-June, 2018
The District has utilized Federal Title funds to outfit our playgrounds with equipment that can be used by students and community members during recess and after school hours. A survey was conducted to determine where schools were in terms of having enough equipment to adequately serve its population: four basketball goals, a pair of soccer goals, two tetherball poles, and a bike rack.

VZG SWAT wanted to share one of many incentives given to the staff for participating in this year's Local Wellness staff event. We implemented a VZG Get Fit exercise program in the evenings.
