Susan Williamson

My name is Susan Williamson.  I am a graduate of Texas Wesleyan University.  I am certified in Full Bilingual Education, with endorsements in ESL and Early Childhood.  I have taught at H. V. Helbing Elementary for over twenty years.  Ironically, I grew up in the Diamond Hill community and graduated from Diamond Hill High School.  My philosophy for education is that each child has the seed of great potential growing within them, it is up to us, their parents, teachers, and community, to prepare them for a successful future.  I love this community and it has been my greatest priviledge to serve the children here at H. V. Helbing.

Sonia Ward

My name is Sonia Ward and I have taught at H.V. Helbing for seven years. Helbing is my first and hopefully I will be here a long time. I am an immigrant that has proudly become an American citizen. My education began in Chihuahua, Mexico with a degree and Accounting, transferring in the US as a Degree in Business Administration. I have completed a second degree at TCC and received certifications in Generalist and Bilingual Education Supplemental-Spanish.

I am married to a wonderful man and have three beautiful children. My youngest is attending Helbing and benefiting from the standards of education we practice. I believe education is the greatest gift children can receive. It provides a path for children to achieve dreams and thrive in life. Educating children requires great effort, dedication and most importantly team work. Teachers, parents and even communities working together is the key to the success of our children.

Here is a little about me. I graduated from UTA in 2005. This is my ninth year to teach and my fourth year with FWISD as a kindergarten teacher which I love very much. I have a 30 yrs. old daughter, Bailey and two grandbabies. One is in 5th grade (a boy) and the other in Pre-k (a girl). I have a son, E.J. whose serves in the Army and he and his wife have my two grandsons. One is 2 yrs. old and the other 1 yr. old. So, I am very blessed and proud of my children.

As a teacher, I enjoy teaching all students who are from different cultures and different learning levels.  All subjects are very important to the students because it explains how the world works around them. All students come with different knowledge and experiences. It is up to the teacher to find what knowledge the student has and help students add new knowledge. A teacher can build prior knowledge by using strategies that yield higher order thinking to better comprehend and have “ah-ha” moments.

Students must feel welcomed and safe and the learning environment is inviting with positive guidance. I believe that students should not be labeled by previous teachers or in the classroom. As a teacher, students learn to be respectful. I am very supportive, caring, nurturing, and challenge students to reach their potential.

Lastly, I enjoy teaching students because they bring out the best in me. I learn as much from my students as they learn from me.
