• Sunday August 20:

    Hello BMHS Families!

The time has arrived! Our 17-18 school will begin tomorrow. Our doors will open at 8:10 a.m.

All students eating breakfast will need to go to the cafeteria in Building A. Once the doors open, any students not eating breakfast are to make their way to their first period class. This procedure will remain the same for the remainder of the year.

Because it is the first week of school and our enrollment has increased by over 300 from last year, if your child is not riding a bus, expect longer drop off and pick up lines. Make sure you have a pick up plan. Remember you can drop off anywhere except on the road between our two buildings - that is for bus use only.

For lunches, 6th grade and 9th grade will eat lunch in building B (at separate times). Other grades will eat in the cafeteria of building A. With over 1600 students, lunch can be a little chaotic in the first week. If you are trying to decide whether or not to pack a lunch - go ahead and pack one for the first couple days as the cafeteria staff work out the logistics of running two lunchrooms.

There will be a solar eclipse on our first day back. For our students' safety, we will not be observing this event.

We are looking forward to a great year! As always feel free to call the school with any questions.

    Monday April 24:

    Hello BMHS Families!

There may only be 30 days left of school but there is a lot going on. Here are a couple highlights to plan for:

    1. Join us this Thursday at 6 pm in the auditorium for our first College Expo. Texas Tech, Tarleton, UNT, A&M and UTA will be on campus to answer questions and tell you more about their campuses. All grades are welcome, it's never too early to start exploring options for college. We will begin in the auditorium for a brief PTA meeting and some quick college tips and then adjourn to the cafeteria where you can explore colleges at your leisure.

    2. Laptop collection is May 18th and 19th. Make sure to turn in laptop ($616.75), case ($15.00), charger ($44.99). If you have any questions please contact Bobbi Levine at Bobbi.levine@fwisd.org

    3. EOC, STAAR and AP testing is upon us. We will have testing of some sort happening on our campus from May 1st through May 12th. For a complete list of which tests are being given on which days, please visit our website. Due to the schedules being adjusted for this time frame, it is very important to not come by for visits, lunch drop offs or early dismissal or late arrivals during this time. We greatly appreciate your help with this.

    4. 6th graders that have not had their shots for 7th grade next year need to have this done ASAP. 7th grade students without these shots will not be given a schedule until that is completed.

As always, if you have any questions - please contact us.

    Have a great evening!
    Richard Penland

    Monday April 10:

    Hello BMHS Families,

Here are a few items you may find helpful to know:

Before I begin, I need to tell you about a three incidents from last week:

    1) First, we had a chemistry class conduct an experiment that caused more smoke than expected. This set off our fire alarm. There was no danger, however all protocols were followed. The staff and students responded admirably while we waited for the Benbrook Fire Department to clear the building.
    2) Next a high school student decided to leave campus without being cleared through the office. The student was located and safe and was returned to their family.
    3) finally, last week we took up a toy gun. Even though it was a toy, this was a serious infraction that we have addressed with the student and their family. If you had a child that was impacted by any of these instances - please let us know so that we can provide counseling for them.

***Please know that in the event of a real threat to our campus - we will send out immediate information via this call out system***

    For next week,

This Thursday is the last day of the fifth grading period. Please take a moment to review your child's grades with them. There are just a couple days to get things corrected or turned in.

Finally, please know that there is no school this Friday.

As always, please let us know if you have any questions.

    Have a great evening!

    Monday March 6

    Hello BMHS Families,

    Here is your weekly update:

    1) Picture day is Monday, March 6th. Any student that did not have their picture taken in the fall must have their photo taken. Additionally, anyone buying pictures may also have their photo taken as well.

    2) Monday, March 6th is also a great day not to cook dinner! Chipotle is hosting a spirit night from 6 to 10 pm. Just mention BMHS when you are ordering.

Now for a couple house keeping items:

1). Our juniors that go off campus to lunch must finish their food and drink prior to going to 6th period. I appreciate everyone's help with this.

    2) This reminder is for everyone. There has been a spike in skipping classes. Students that are caught skipping will be sent to in school suspension. Repeated skipping will result in stronger discipline measures. Parents, one way we can use your help is when a student skips, they are marked absent and you get a phone call that afternoon/evening. If you get one of those calls and it doesn't make sense, please call us. This will help ensure your children are getting to each class. Additionally, by skipping class they run the risk of losing credit for that class.

    I appreciate all your help!

    Have a great evening!

    R. Penland

    Hello BMHS Families!

And welcome to the start of semester 2!
Classes will resume Tuesday, January 10th at regular time.

Good news for my middle school students: the entrance that has been closed all year is finally open which will keep students from having to walk around building B to get in and keeping kids from being late. Additionally, in a couple weeks I will be moving a majority of the middle school classes that are currently housed in building A (main building) to building B. When that happens, we will print new schedules with the new room numbers.

High School Families: Credit Recovery starts Tuesday after school at 3:45- if your child is in high school and you are unsure about their attendance or the need for attendance recovery, please contact the stay in school coordinator (Ms. Hodges) or your child's counselor

Attention Parents! It’s your LAST CHANCE to order the 2017 Benbrook Middle High School Yearbook for $40. You must order your copy by Friday, January 27th to receive a copy when they arrive in May. 1). This Thursday is our last day of school before break. It is a full day for middle school students and a half day for high school students. Thursday afternoon is also our holiday movie and annual Reindeer bowl. 7th - 11th graders can choose either event to go to. All sixth will go to the movie, Elf. The cost is $3.00. Student that would rather not participate, will attend study hall for the afternoon. Students can pay during lunch time this week. All early dismissals need to be done prior to 1:30. Early dismissals after this time will become problematic due to the afternoon activities.

    3) Juniors that have ordered class rings will get their order Tuesday of this week.

    4) in light of the recent tragedy that has impacted our community, we want to be able to provide as much support as possible to everyone. So tomorrow night (Tuesday) from 5 to 6, our counselors are hosting an opportunity for our parents and families to learn about managing holiday stress. Please stop our library if you are interested in this.

Please take time to enjoy our break! And we will see everyone when school opens again on Tuesday, January 10th.
