Degrees and Certifications:
Ms. Roman was born and raised in Honduras, where she lived until the summer of 1991. She made the decision to go to college in the United States and attended A&M University-Kingsville. Ms. Roman majored in Computer Information Systems. A few years later she moved to Abilene and attended McMurry University, majored in Education, and graduated in May of 2000. I got a Master degree in Granada, Spain at the Universidad de Granada: “Master para la enseñanza y aprendizaje del idioma español y su cultura”
As a child growing up in Tegucigalpa Honduras she was fortunate to attend a well-regarded, private Catholic School from Kindergarten through high school. The private, all girls school professed a strong educational and ethical philosophy that has remained with her throughout her life. It is this foundation, along with the continued support of her family, educators and friends that has allowed her to embrace her desire of teaching children. Living in the United States has provided her with opportunities to grow and develop, both in her personal and professional life.
Ms. Roman has been a first and second grade teacher at Oakhurst Elementary for over 18 years now. She believes every day is different in her role as a teacher and it is never boring! She has a great team of teachers and support staff at Oakhurst and thinks the children are very lucky to be in such a happy, achieving school. She also really values our fantastic school community with lots of our parents giving great support to what we do. Their commitment to the school really does make a big difference.
More than anything though, it is the success of every child in this school that Ms. Roman believes makes her job at Oakhurst such a rewarding one. And finally, when she is not at school… she enjoys traveling, photography and spending time with her family.
