Degrees and Certifications:

Mrs. Rachel Rogers

Art Teacher

Alma Mater: The University of North Texas

Degree:  Bachelor of Fine Arts, cum laude

Certifications:  Art All-Level,  K-12 , Elementary Classroom, Self-Contained, 1st-8th

ROAR Success Criteria:  I believe that all students can learn and have the potential to be creative and problem solve throughout their life.  The world is looking for critical thinkers that think outside the box.  Studies prove that those students who participate in the arts have higher test scores. The art room is a place where students can choose different mediums to use as they explore and problem solve, getting them ready for the workplace.

My expectations for students are to come with a smile, ready and willing to learn and create.  All students are expected to try their best with a positive attitude.  Next, all students are to treat each other and art tools with respect at all times. All students are also expected to participate in classroom discussions and projects, and all activities. I want to hear your ideas and out-of-the-box thinking!  I believe that all children can create if they are encouraged to try new things and then left to make their own decisions in the creating.

I majored in art and education at Texas Tech and at the University of North Texas where I received my degree.  I have 30 years of experience in the public school system teaching 2nd grade, 3rd grade, and art to PK-6th grade. The last 7 years have been in Fort Worth ISD.

I was born in Boston, Massachusetts and have returned to Cape Cod most years during the summer. That is where I learned to swim, sail, fish, and row a boat along with my 4 brothers and two sisters. I swam in races every summer with my brothers, winning gold medals every time. The ocean is my peaceful place. I have 4 adult children and two grandchildren.  One daughter and her two children live with me along with two guinea pigs.

Art has always been a big part of my life, whether it’s the art of music, the art of writing or the art of creating visually. The first art that I remember learning is weaving on my little toy spinning wheel.  I was only 4-5 years old. I had a sketchbook of cartoon characters and birds when I was in second grade.  My interests grew into photography when I was in elementary school and it has continued throughout my life. In High School, I won 2nd place at the State Fair of Texas for a wood cut print.

Art never disappoints. It’s soothing, calming, and expressive.  No matter what you are feeling, participating in some kind of art will help.  Even mistakes can be turned into something beautiful. I knew for as long as I can remember that I wanted to make art and to teach children.  Children have so much potential inside them.  It’s exciting to watch it come alive!

Every Child is an Artist. ~ Pablo Picasso
