Overview
Fort Worth ISD campuses are as much a part of the history of Fort Worth as the oldest parts of the city. Our schools are part of the fabric of Fort Worth. Our campuses serve as a beacon of hope and a reminder of the impact an education can have on a child’s life. They are a symbol of this city’s commitment to educate all children.
Even so, over the past five years, Fort Worth ISD has experienced a significant decline in student enrollment — a trend that is expected to continue through the next five years. The decline is a result of many factors — birth rates, more competition in the educational landscape, parents choosing to homeschool, people leaving Fort Worth for the suburbs, and more.
When we operate more efficient schools, we’re able to reinvest valuable resources into what matters most—supporting our students’ academic success and preparing them for the bright futures they deserve.
The FWISD Board of Trustees has approved a plan to retire and consolidate campuses. The first closures began in June 2025, with a total of 18 campuses closing by June 2029.
This is not the end—it’s the beginning of something better for every child in our district.

How to Support your Student
Talking to your child about change
Change can be tough, especially for kids. If your child is changing schools in the near future, they might feel a mix of emotions. Here are some simple ways to help your child handle the change and feel more ready for what’s next:
1. Listen to Their Feelings
Ask your child how they feel about switching schools. Let them talk without interrupting. They might feel excited, nervous, or even sad. If they can’t find the right words, help them name their feelings.
Let them know it’s okay to feel that way and remind them you’ll be there to support them. Reassure them that the teachers and staff at the new school will help too.
2. Focus on the Good Things
Talk about what could be fun or exciting at the new school—like making new friends, learning new things, or joining new activities. Write down the good things and put the list somewhere you can both see. Add to it whenever you think of something new.
This helps your child stay positive and feel less worried.
3. Practice Coping Skills
Talk through problems.
Ask questions like, “Who can you talk to at school if something’s bothering you?” Make a list of people they can go to for help.
Be their cheerleader.
Remind them they’re strong and can handle big changes. Tell them often: “I believe in you!”
