Weather Closure Policies
Our district calendars include built-in minutes for weather disruptions.
During an emergency weather closure, only employees specifically assigned to weather-related or other critical duties are authorized to work. All other employees are not required to work.
The District will recommend Board action to compensate all full-time employees for emergency closure days without requiring them to make up the missed workdays later. The District will also recommend Board action to compensate substitutes currently working in long-term assignments.
Non-exempt (hourly) employees who are required to work during the closure will receive premium pay as outlined in Board policy DEA (LOCAL).
How FWISD Makes Weather-Related Decisions
The superintendent makes the final decision on whether to cancel classes & activities due to inclement weather.
District leaders use forecast information from local and national weather experts, area road conditions, and speak with neighboring districts to help make a decision.
School cancellation or delay decisions are made on a case-by-case basis after district officials assess any impact on district operations and safety.
