The Additional Days School Year (ADSY) initiative provides formula funding to support school systems with adding up to 30 additional instructional days (beyond a minimum of 175 days) at eligible campuses. Established through House Bill 3 passed by the 86th Texas Legislature in June 2019 (and recently updated by the 89th Texas Legislature via HB 2 in 2025), ADSY launched in the 2020-2021 school year to promote expanded learning time and reduce summer learning loss.

There is no change to school hours.

Elementary Schools: 7:40 a.m.  – 3:10 p.m.
Middle Schools: 9 a.m. – 4:30 p.m.

Those 25 purple Wednesdays are part of next year’s schedule. Starting in the 2026–2027 school year, ADSY campuses will include one optional ADSY Wednesday each week, built right into the calendar instead of happening only in summer or long intersessions. On these Wednesdays, your student will still go to their same school, but the day may look a little different. Schools will adjust the schedule to include:

• More brain breaks to help students recharge and focus
• Fun enrichment activities like STEM, arts, clubs, and hands-on projects
• Extra small-group support or tutoring for students who want or need it
• More planning time for teachers to strengthen classroom learning

Students following the ADSY Full-Year calendar will conclude the school year on Friday, June 25, 2027. This does not require attendance through the full summer. Summer Break begins Monday, June 28, 2027.

Truancy applies only to base instructional days.

Currently, ADSY applies only to elementary and middle schools. High schools follow the Traditional or Early College calendars, which start later and end earlier. ADSY provides an opportunity for families to reduce summer childcare challenges and expenses, knowing their elementary and middle school students are in safe, supportive environments with access to nutritious meals.

Students still go to their same school, just like a normal day. The schedule is adjusted so kids get more small-group support, fun enrichment, and brain breaks. Schools may include activities like STEM labs, arts, tutoring, projects, and clubs.

Teachers on ADSY campuses work a 212-day board approved calendar and are paid at their daily rate based on their experience level. For example, compensation aligns to each teacher’s actual pay scale—teachers with 30 years receive the 30-year daily rate, and early-career teachers receive their respective daily rates.

Yes. Families may request a transfer to another FWISD campus where space is available. Transfer information is available at enrollment.fwisd.org. Gold Seal program applications for 2026–2027 close on August 10, 2026.

ADSY gives students extra learning time during the school year, which means:

• More fun activities, clubs, and enrichment experiences
• More small-group support and tutoring when needed
• More opportunities to explore advanced classes and new learning projects

Feedback is collected through campus-distributed district surveys and stakeholder links, open to both parents and staff. ADSY planning is supported by the ADSY Steering Committee and campus feedback cycles throughout the year, with feeder community engagement occurring in the Spring.

Time optimization is the foundation of ADSY. The need for intervention during the school year in-real time as opposed to waiting for weeks (intersession) or until the summer is the key rationale for pursuing the full-year redesign option. Weekly acceleration and intervention opportunities will provide the greatest opportunity to transform the educational experience for students.
