Lizeth Gonzalez

Dual Language Teacher at M.H. Moore ES

The contributions of Lizeth Gonzalez, a dedicated 4th and 5th grade dual-language teacher at M.H. Moore Elementary, cannot be measured in the curriculum she teaches — but on the way she makes all her students feel valued.

As a Fort Worth ISD graduate herself, Ms. Gonzalez’s journey is one that mirrors her students’. She started her academic path as a dual-language student at Diamond Hill Elementary before graduating from North Side High School. She walked the path her students are on now, and it is her mission to make that road easier for today’s youth.

Her personal experiences have shaped her teaching philosophy. Ms. Gonzalez recalls a moment in elementary school when she was learning English and felt disheartened because she didn’t understand an assignment. A teacher’s assistant noticed her struggle and read a bilingual book to her. That simple act brought her immense joy and reassurance, making her feel seen and giving her hope that she would succeed.

Today, Ms. Gonzalez channels that memory into her classroom, helping her students celebrate their heritage and bilingualism, not only during Hispanic Heritage Month, but every day. She believes in the power of culture and language, instilling a sense of pride in her students by embedding cultural activities into her lessons. “Bilingualism is a superpower,” she often tells her students, emphasizing the value of their unique abilities.

“Bilingualism is a superpower”

Her favorite motto, "Si se puede," is more than a phrase; it's a guiding principle that she shares with her students to remind them that they are capable of achieving anything. For Ms. Gonzalez, teaching is about more than academics — it's about creating a space where students feel proud, connected, and empowered.
