Types of Leave
Paid leave must be used in half or full-day increments unless otherwise authorized through an intermittent Family Medical Leave. Employees should consult Policies DEC Local and DEC Regulation to review their options to select which type of leave accrual they may use for an absence from duty.
Earned comp time must be used before any available paid state and local leave. Unless an employee requests a different order, available paid state and local leave will be used in the following order:

Qualified employees are eligible for up to 12 weeks of unpaid, job-protected leave in a 12-month period for the following reasons:
Military Leave

Paid military leave is limited to 15 days for military duty or training, and 7 days for military duty in response to a disaster per fiscal year:
Maternity or Parenting Leave (LPPA)

Qualified employees are eligible for up to six (6) consecutive calendar weeks of leave, as measured from the date of childbirth or adoption for a child up to 2 years of age, or from the first official date of medical leave, whichever occurs earlier.

Qualified employees can take up to 180 calendar days of leave as a continuous block of time.
Regular Leave of Absence
Leave Entitlements
Qualified employees may be granted leave for up to one year, or the remainder of a duty year, after completion of three years of service in the District.
