Individual Planning

Welcome to Fort Worth ISD’s Individual Planning page, where students and families can explore the tools and support available to help guide academic, career, and personal-social development. Individual planning is a key component of the district’s counseling services, designed to help students set meaningful goals, monitor their progress, and make informed decisions about their future. FWISD counselors work closely with students to ensure that their plans reflect both personal interests and district or state requirements, while also considering any specialized needs or circumstances.

Each year, students in grades 6 through 12 meet one-on-one with their school counselor to review and update their academic and career goals. These meetings include course selection planning and discussions about transitions between grade levels. Counselors also assist students with interpreting standardized test results, exploring career pathways, and preparing for post-secondary opportunities such as college applications, financial aid, and scholarships. SchooLinks, FWISD’s post-secondary planning platform, is available to all secondary students and provides a personalized, interactive space to research colleges, careers, and scholarships. Students use SchooLinks to build their middle school and high school course progression plans and, in 12th grade, to manage college applications and financial aid submissions.

Parents’ Role in Individual Student Planning

Educational and career decision-making, planning, and goal setting are primarily the responsibility of students and their families. Parent involvement is essential to the success of each student’s individual plan. FWISD encourages parents to stay informed and engaged throughout the planning process by reviewing course guides, graduation requirements, and participating in advisement sessions when possible. Together, students, families, and counselors form a collaborative team that supports each learner’s journey toward a successful future.

Students and parents can access FWISD's course guide and graduation requirements through the 2025-2026 Bulletin 100, which includes course and program information as well as relevant policies/procedures.
