Program Overview
FWISD/City of Fort Worth After-School Program Sites
The Fort Worth Independent School District (FWISD) and the City of Fort Worth (CFW) partner to operate 59 after-school program sites throughout the district. Most programs are available Monday through Thursday from school dismissal until 6:30 p.m., with select campuses also offering free and parent-paid programming on Fridays.
FWAS programs are provided at no cost to participating families, many of whom qualify for the federal free lunch program. Each site is led by a dedicated Site Supervisor, while a central administrative team consisting of a Director and four Program Coordinators oversees program implementation and support.
The FWISD/CFW After-School Program is committed to:
- Strengthening academic achievement and educational success
- Supporting students’ physical, social, and emotional development
- Providing safe, supervised environments that help reduce youth involvement in or exposure to crime
Students at each FWAS site receive a nutritious snack and dedicated homework assistance from program staff, helping to support both academic success and student well-being. In addition to these daily services, each program site offers activities in at least three of the following key program areas:
- Academic Enrichment – Tutoring, homework assistance, and activities that reinforce classroom learning.
- Recreation and Youth Development – Programs that promote physical activity, teamwork, leadership, and personal growth.
- Fine Arts – Creative opportunities in visual arts, music, dance, theater, and other artistic disciplines.
- Service Learning and Community Engagement – Projects that encourage civic responsibility, volunteerism, and community involvement.
- Technology and Digital Learning – Activities that build technology skills, digital literacy, and hands-on experience with innovative tools and resources.
Through these diverse learning opportunities, students are able to explore new interests, develop important life skills, and build meaningful connections beyond the school day.
