Lights On! (Fall)

Launched in October 2000, Lights On Afterschool is the nation’s only annual celebration dedicated to recognizing afterschool programs and the vital role they play in supporting students, families, and communities. Over the years, the event has become a cornerstone of the afterschool movement, drawing nationwide attention to the impact of quality out-of-school-time programming.

Organized by the Afterschool Alliance, Lights On Afterschool highlights the many ways afterschool programs enrich students’ lives by providing opportunities to explore new interests, develop valuable skills, and engage in hands-on learning experiences. From science and robotics to community service, martial arts, poetry, and the arts, these programs help young people discover their passions while supporting academic and personal growth. The celebration also serves as a reminder of the ongoing need to expand access to high-quality afterschool opportunities for all children.

This year, Fort Worth After School (FWAS) will proudly celebrate Lights On Afterschool on October 27, 2026, from 6:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. We invite students, families, community partners, and supporters to join us as we celebrate more than 25 years of providing high-quality afterschool enrichment programs that inspire learning, creativity, leadership, and success for thousands of Fort Worth students.

Road Warrior/STEM Fair (Fall)

Students build and race soapbox-like cars constructed of repurposed materials. This STEM based activity encourages students to utilized their critical thinking skills and creativity.   Prizes are awarded for fastest cars, most creative and most safe vehicles.  Students also participate in building and launching catapults and drones races.   Come join us for all the fun!  

Mayfest (Spring)

The purpose of Mayfest performances  is to spotlight the array of outstanding performance from FWAS program sites. In conjunction with the City of Fort Worth.

1 Thing Better Leadership Camp (Spring)

Showcase of Stars commemorates a year of success by recognizing Shining Star Students from each Fort Worth After School program site. Each program site selects two stars that help make Fort Worth After School a success. Attitude, attendance, outstanding behavior, and most improved are among the criteria used to nominate a Shining Star. 

Blue Zones Pickleball Tournament (Spring)

Participants compete against students from other FWISD after-school programs, demonstrating teamwork, athleticism, and sportsmanship.

Boat Regatta (Spring)

Students work together to construct boats from cardboard, tape, and glue before putting them to the test in a fun-filled race at Hurricane Harbor. While the boats may eventually sink, the excitement and teamwork make the experience unforgettable.

Recycled Art Contest (Spring)

Students transform recycled materials into unique and imaginative works of art, showcasing both creativity and environmental awareness.  Students create the most amazing works of art!
