The Fort Worth ISD supports health and physical literacy achievement through multiple avenues that include; health education, physical education, coordinated school health, and the School Health Advisory Council.  These avenues share a common goal; to support health and physical literacy for all students, staff, and school community members.  Health literacy is a person's capacity to access information, resources, and services necessary to maintain, adopt, and practice good health behaviors.  Physical literacy is a person's ability, confidence, and desire to be physically active for life.

Growing effective and empowered health and physical education teachers that prepare and inspire all students to become community advocates and practitioners of a lifelong wellness adventure.

Courses

• Elementary Health- 30 lessons per year
• Elementary Physical Education- a minimum of 135 minutes per week
• 6th Grade Health & Physical Education- "Moving to Wellness", a year-long course combining health and physical education concepts.  Meets one of the required year's of physical education during 6-8 grade.
• 7th & 8th Grade Physical Education- one year required during 7th and/or 8th grade
• High School Health- one semester required for graduation
• High School Physical Education- two semesters required for graduation
