Science

The FWISD Science Department provides a rigorous, engaging, and standards-aligned science curriculum with high-quality instructional materials, resources, and assessments that support all campuses in developing scientifically literate students who investigate, reason, communicate, and think critically about the natural world.

The Science Department supports the District’s mission of “preparing all students for success in college, career, and community leadership” by promoting:

• Student-centered science instruction that develops scientific understanding through investigation, inquiry, evidence-based reasoning, academic discourse, and meaningful real-world experiences.
• Equitable access to high-quality instructional materials and culturally responsive, linguistically accommodating practices that support all students in achieving at high levels.
• The strategic use of formative and summative assessments to monitor student progress, inform instructional decisions, and provide responsive opportunities for acceleration, reteach, intervention, and extension.
• Science-rich classrooms where students ask questions, analyze data, develop and use models, construct explanations, engage in argument from evidence, and communicate scientific thinking across a variety of contexts and disciplines.
