Fort Worth Independent School District
Social Studies
Welcome to Social Studies
The FWISD Social Studies Department provides a rigorous, differentiated, and relevant social studies curriculum with standards-aligned resources and assessments that give instructional support to all campuses through a renewed focus on teacher knowledge and best practices.
The Social Studies department supports the District's mission of "preparing all students for success in college, career, and community leadership" by promoting
- Student-Centered classrooms where disciplinary literacy and thinking skills development is emphasized over rote memorization of ideas, events, people, and places.
- Student investigations of primary and secondary sources that promote meaningful interactions and contribute to a deeper understanding of the content across time, space, and cultures.
- The use of formative and summative assessments that accurately reflect student learning and guide instruction; and
- Strategies to guide the development of reading, writing, and thinking skills.
