Deaf/Hard of Hearing & RDSPD

Regional Day School Programs for the Deaf (RDSPD) in Texas were instituted by the Texas Education Agency to provide quality services to all students in Texas who are Deaf or Hard of Hearing (DHH). Due to the low incidence of hearing loss, students may come from several districts to a central school location for education services, or be served by teachers who are certified to work with students who are Deaf/Hard of Hearing on their home campuses. The Fort Worth RDSPD is established as a shared services arrangement between seven neighboring school districts.  The RDSPD serves eligible students who are deaf or hard of hearing (DHH) aged birth through 21 years of age.

• Castleberry ISD

• Eagle Mountain-Saginaw ISD

• Lake Worth ISD

• Northwest ISD

• White Settlement ISD

The Fort Worth ISD RDSPD provides a continuum of services based upon each child’s individual needs as determined by assessment and the Admission, Review and Dismissal (ARD) committee. 

• Parent/Infant (0-3 year old) services are provided through a memorandum of understanding between FWISD and the Early Childhood Intervention Program (ECI) that provides home or center-based instruction.

• Itinerant teachers of the deaf provide support to students who are Deaf or Hard of Hearing enrolled in general education or basic special education programs on their home school campus.

• Intensive deaf education instruction is available for school-aged students in early childhood through high school in centralized classrooms on a regular education campus. Students will spend a portion of their day with in the general education setting based upon each student’s individual needs.
