Leaders Academy Network FAQ

The Leadership Academy Network (LAN) includes five Fort Worth ISD public school campuses. 

• Leadership Academy at Como Elementary
• Leadership Academy at John T. White Elementary
• Leadership Academy at Maude I. Logan Elementary
• Leadership Academy at Mitchell Boulevard Elementary
• Leadership Academy at Forest Oak Middle School (6-8 grades)

These public schools are supported through an innovative partnership between Fort Worth ISD and TXWES University under the provisions of Texas Senate Bill 1882 (or SB1882), designed to continue improving learning outcomes across all Leadership Academy campuses.  SB 1882 incentivizes districts to work collaboratively with new and existing partners to promote innovation and dramatically improve student outcomes, offering districts the opportunity to expand the diversity of school options, bring in targeted expertise, and empower school leaders and partners with greater autonomy. In 2019, Fort Worth ISD selected TXWES to formalize, sustain, and support a successful school transformation model (LAN) that was first established by the district. Guided by contractual performance targets and defined autonomies, TXWES and Fort Worth ISD  share oversight responsibilities through their distinct roles.

The Leadership Academy Network (LAN) in Fort Worth, Texas uses the Accelerating Campus Excellence (ACE) model in its schools.  The ACE model includes the following components:

• Extended school day
• Professional Learning Communities
• Social and emotional learning/Everybody grows
• Parent and community partnerships
• Instructional excellence
• Strategic staffing

This partnership creates a unique in-district relationship that leverages the resources of Fort Worth ISD in conjunction with Texas Wesleyan University. There is no involvement by existing for-profit or non-profit charter management organizations

FWISD drafted a partnership agreement that included academic and financial targets for the partnership.  In addition, the FWISD monitors the partnership several times during the school year to ensure it’s operating per its agreement.  The FWISD annually reviews the performance per Board Policy ELA (LOCAL) to ensure a partner is meeting expectations.  If during a review cycle the partner is not meeting the contractual expectations, the district may take actions that include modifying the agreement, corrective actions, probation or ending (revoke) the partnership.  If the partner is meeting the performance goals and in compliance with the agreement and applicable law, then the district can consider an extension/renewal. 

Each LAN campus enrolls every student living in its attendance boundary and welcomes other students to transfer into a LAN campus.  If more students seek to attend a LAN campus than there are seats available in the school, a lottery will be used to admit students equitably.  Here are some helpful enrollment resources:
