I have always loved school and grew up in a household in which education was greatly valued. I have been blessed to be able to earn degrees in both nursing and music and to be able to practice both professions for many years. I consider it a great privilege to be able to pass on some of the knowledge I have learned in college and careers to my students with the hope that it will bless their lives and perhaps make their road a little easier in the future.

Mr. TIM WALZ

Automotive Technology

I grew up on a farm in rural Minnesota, where I experienced the satisfaction of being a hands-on learner, in a setting with lots of hands-on problem solving tasks. From a young age, I assisted in repair and maintenance of farm equipment, including tractors, field implements, farm trucks, and family vehicles. I also encountered the frustrations common to hands-on learners in traditional school classroom settings; frustration related to the lack of one-on-one instructional time, boredom with lessons that can seem irrelevant or "un-connected" to the student's world, and so on. Having worked as a professional in the automotive service industry (primarily in the service of asian import vehicles), I had an opportunity to teach in a trade-school environment, and discovered a passion for teaching the technology I had already become familiar with. Many of my most rewarding experiences as a teacher have involved students who have encounter the challenges that I struggled with as a young person, and seeing these struggling students develop confidence as a result of success in a field they have a passion for. This is especially rewarding when this increased level of confidence translates to success in other classes and pursuits.

I believe that all students can learn and achieve success, and I am excited for the privilege to create a safe and encouraging learning environment and be a part of that success. I've worked in a variety of industries, as well as living abroad for 4 years, so I will draw on my own personal real world experience and bring that into the classroom in order to challenge the students to think critically to solve real world problem, while instilling in my students a love for learning.
