End of Season
Posted by Coach Moilan on 11/10/2023Your Western Hills Cougars came out and played hard but came up short against the #5 team in the state, Stephenville Yellowjackets. On a cold, wet night at Tarleton State, our guys played with a lot of grit and competed all night long. We were proud of their attitude and no quit mentality. We received a lot of praise from the officiating crew for how well-mannered and what great sportsmanship they showed throughout the game. We are proud of our 2023 Cougars. Please congratulate them on a great season when you see them. We will be announcing our season accolades and All-District players soon.
On the offensive side of the ball, juniors EJ Jones and Kyu Wilson both had big nights rushing the ball and had great seasons over all. EJ will wrap up his junior year with over 700 yards of rushing and 6 touchdowns on the year. Kyu will finish his junior campaign having led the team to a record 4th playoff appearance and 1000 yards of total offense and 11 total touchdowns. Senior Kaream Williams punched in a late TD against Stephenville and will finish his senior season with over 600 yards rushing and 200 yards receiving this season.
The big men up front continued to play well. We will miss seniors Rod Gray and Jayson Aden, but we will return junior Kevin Cruz, Sophomore Anthony Rodriguez, and freshman Derek Mosby. Receivers senior TJ Hammon and sophomores O'Rylon Crockett and Jeremiah Stribling blocked well and came up with several key receptions throughout the season.
On defense, we were led all year with great play from senior Love Willis, senior Domo Salazar, junior Brycen Foster, and senior Javaris Hamilton. These guys led the team in tackles and brought a "Cujo" mentality and attitude to each game and all had great seasons. Up front, junior Lester Cole was a great addition to a pretty good DLine that we had returning and led the team in sacks with 7 this season. Senior K'heaven Johnson did a great job moving into several different spots this year, but played well on the Dline, finishing with 3 sacks and over 20 tackles this season. In the secondary, junior Michael Williams will be back to lead a new cast next season from his safety position.
Lastly, senior Alberto Delgadillo came out after our other kickers moved halfway through the season and played like he had been kicking for years. Onside kicks and extra points are what he excelled at, and he had a great year taking care of the kicks for the Cougars.
Although the season is over, we will still be monitoring grades and behavior. If there is anything we can do to help, please let us know.

Playoff Bound
Posted by Coach Moilan on 11/3/2023The Cougars wrapped up the regular season with a big win over the DHJ Eagles. Nine different players scored touchdowns and the defense shut them down with the exception of a late touchdown in the 4th quarter.
On offense, Kaream Williams scored twice, while K'heaven Johnson, Rod Gray, EJ Jones, Jeremiah Stribling, Kyu Wilson, D'Mareay Hornsby, Cavon Washington, and TJ Hammon all scored once. The offense accumulated over 300 yards of total offense as the Cougars took home a win on senior night. The starting defense only gave up one first down.
With the win, the Cougars entered a three-way tie for the state playoffs. Eastern Hill, Lake Worth, and Western Hills all finished district play with a 4-3 record. The top four teams were determined by the district tie-breaking rules and, for the fourth year in a row, the Cougars will advance to the playoffs. Playoff game information will be sent out as soon as possible.
Thanks for all of your support this season.
