Deborah Stewart

My name is Deborah Stewart and I have been teaching at Burton Hill for 9 years. This is my home now, and from here, when I'm ready, I will retire. I love my Burton Hill family. The community is very welcoming and the students love to learn. My room parents have been so kind and giving of their time to help me make each year a successful one. I am very appreciative of all they do.

I have been teaching for 42 years. I taught for 15 years in North Carolina sixth through eighth grade reading, and social studies.  I have taught in Texas 27 years and have worked with Pre-K students up to fifth grade students. Texas is my home. Teaching is my passion. I teach math and science and love it. I am thrilled when my students get a math or science concept and I can see the light bulb turn on with their display of enthusiasm.

My dad was in the military, and I was never at a school longer than three years. I went to school in Holland for my 6th, 7th, and 8th grade. It was very exciting and very challenging.  I guess being a family in the military has increased my joy of traveling, seeing new places and discovering new things.

My husband and I have 3 sons and 5 grandchildren.  We travel with our grandchildren every summer to different places in the United States. They keep us busy. We are expecting our first great grandson. We are looking forward to extending our family.

I enjoy planting, swimming, and reading. My favorite children's book is Charlotte's Web by EB White.
