Athlete of the Month

  • MAY 2022

Fabian Perez (Junior), This season Fabian set new PR's in Track this year, always displaying a "want to" attitude. He willfully wants to practice and put in the extra laps to better himself. Fabian is a student athlete who possess the desire, drive, and determination in everything that he does on and off the field. Other Sports: Varsity Football, GPA 3.84

Ti'yanna Johnson (Sophomore), Ti'yanna has been a spark plug for the girls Flag Football team, offensively scoring all our touchdowns this season. She's a great motivator and leader for our team. Other sports include volleyball, basketball, and soccer, GPA 3.91

    APRIL 2022

Senior Varsity Soccer - Bruno Rosales (no photo), has set the standard of what can be accomplished for those athletes returning next season. We have been using gametraka (gps tracking system) all soccer season to measure work rate, total distance, top speed, and hard running efforts.  In the last game of the season, a WIN v. Arlington Heights, Bruno became the first soccer player at North Side to lead in all the metrics. He covered 6.2 miles, ran over 2,200 meters (22 soccer fields), had a top speed of 19.6 mi/h, a work rate of 96yd/ min and had 41 hard running efforts.

Junior Varsity Track - Abby Martinez (pictured below), leads by example with a positive attitude and excellent work ethic. She works hard on and off the track to better herself and those around her.  She finally saw her hard work pay off when she set a new PR in the 800m race. Other Sports: Varsity Cross Country & Varsity Cheer GPA 3.60

    MARCH 2022

Perla Varela (Senior) has worked so hard this month for her teammates on and off the field. Her legs have bruises all over them and she limps around campus, but as soon as the game starts, she is like a machine that nothing can stop. She has been the heart of our team over the past few weeks, scoring a goal against Saginaw and getting assists against Heights and Poly. As our team captain, her work ethic shows the younger girls how they should lead once they become upperclassmen. Perla has a 4.0 GPA and is ranked #27 in the senior class.

Diego Reyes (Senior), during the pre-season scrimmages Diego hit two homeruns and a grand slam. As a student athlete, Diego has a 3.72 GPA and has remained on the A/B Honor Roll the entire school year.

  • North Side HS: Christopher Lunsford

I am Christopher Lunsford, the Head Girls Soccer Coach for North Side High. I started with FWISD in 2003 at J.P. Elder Middle School, where I coached Soccer, Cross Country, and Track. I moved up to North Side three years later and became the Boy's JV Soccer coach, where I enjoyed coaching with Head Coach Garth Briggeman for many successful years. I moved over to become the Girls Head Coach in 2017-18 and became the Girls Athletic Coordinator in 2018-19.

I began playing soccer when I was three years old and can only remember missing one season since then. I played Club Soccer for Challenge, American Eagles, and FC Lynx. I don't think any of those clubs still exist because I'm getting old and that was a long time ago.

My greatest soccer memory was scoring a goal in the Dallas Cup Super Group during the opening ceremonies while thousands of fans cheered USA, USA, USA because an American team was actually winning a game in the Super Group.
