Mrs. Kristen McCarthy (Diagnostician)

Bio for Kristen McCarthy:

I began working as a special education teacher in 2008 for Daggett Montessori School in FWISD.  Prior to education, I worked as a CPS investigator, a licensed hair dresser for Toni and Guy, and did corporate sales for a bit.  After my last job in corporate sales, I knew it was time to further pursue a career in education.

I have an undergraduate degree from the University of North Texas in Child Development and Humans Studies and a minor is Psychology.  In 2016, I completed a masters in Special Education with a certification for Educational Diagnostician at Stephen F. Austin State University.

In 2017, I was promoted to an Educational Diagnostician position within the district.  I am currently a Diagnostician at Burton Hill Elementary and J. T. Stevens Elementary.

When I am not working, I enjoy spending time with my husband, gardening, and taking care of my little “farmette.”

Mrs. Casie Billmire (LINC Teacher)

I am Casie Billmire. I was born and raised in Decatur, Texas where I am currently living. I graduated from Decatur High School in 2012 and then went to Rexburg and attended Brigham Young University-Idaho from 2013-2016. I graduated with a Bachelor’s of Science in Early Childhood/Special Education in December of 2016. This is my second year of teaching and my second year as LINC teacher at Burton. In my spare time I love hanging out with family and friends, being crafty, and swimming.
Since I was young I have enjoyed being around children and always known that something in that area was where I wanted to be. My love for teaching and working with children grew with my experience at BYU-Idaho and I know that it has helped to set me up for success. I believe that education is important, especially the early grades, because early development is the foundation of the rest of their lives. As teachers of children in the early grades and even before school, we play an important part in their lives by setting the foundation for reading, math, and their love for learning. The focus of education nowadays is about the access of knowledge and information and I believe that it is important, but the foundation built in the early grades is crucial, no matter what. With that as a basis, a classroom should be a safe place for both teacher and students. It should be a place of learning as the teacher leads and students participate and are active in their individual learning. The biggest part I want students to understand is that they are a major part in their own learning.
