The Parents as Teachers is an evidence-based model program that provides services to all families with children from prenatal to kindergarten age. The program vision, “All children will learn, grow and develop to realize their full potential.”
The FWISD Parents as Teachers Program is open to all families within the FWISD boundaries. Forty elementary schools host a Parents as Teachers Program that promotes optimal early development, conduct bi-weekly Personal Visits, Monthly Group Connections, provide Resource Network, and conduct Child Screenings. Glen Park currently has two Parent Educators with 30 families enrolled in the program. Moreover, the Parents as Teachers conducts weekly, ninety-minute Learn & Play Sessions and All-Board to prepare early age children for Pre-K and beyond.
The FWISD Parents as Teachers Program implements the aforementioned cohesive components to:
*Increase parent knowledge of early childhood development and improve parent practices at home.
*Provide early detection of possible child development delays and/or health issues.
*Prevent child abuse and neglect.
*Increase early age school readiness.
