Fort Worth ISD News

Every week, members of the Fort Worth ISD Homeless Education Linking Partners, HELP, team meet with parents in homeless shelters for Parent Cafes. During these meetings, FWISD helps families experiencing homelessness learn the best ways to still get an education for their children.

Coordinator Itzia Oscos and her team of liaisons have done such impactful work in the community through the program that Cook Children’s Center for Community Health honored her with the Community Spark Award.

The award highlights community collaborators who demonstrate exceptional enthusiasm and initiative in advancing the health of children, engage in C4CH programs, bring fresh ideas and energy to support progress of programs, and show potential for long-term impact and growth.

At the beginning of the program, FWISD HELP met with families at the Presbyterian Night Shelter, but now it's expanded into the Van Zandt-Guinn community as well.

The work can be heavy, Oscos said. The reasons people experience homelessness are sometimes beyond what others may expect. And while it’s a lot to carry, she said it’s also a reminder of her “why.”

Her efforts are helping countless families in Fort Worth ISD, and that makes all the hard days worth it.

Congratulations, Itzia!
