Fort Worth ISD News

Students in the IT Support Services pathway in Fort Worth ISD leave the program with unparalleled computer hardware knowledge.

Unlike other IT classes, this pathway is less about software and more about the physical computer itself. Students learn all the pieces of the computer, how to troubleshoot and help clients, and knowledge about databases.

Currently at South Hills and Polytechnic high schools, the four-year program offers students the opportunity to earn the CompTIA certification. The worldwide certification means students can work anywhere with the skills they master.

Aside from the employment opportunities, students who participate in this pathway save a lot of their own by being able to diagnose and repair their own computers. The skills they learn can be applied in any field.

And once they have a job in the field, the entry level pay typically starts at $60,000 and can be upwards of $100,000 with the certifications students can earn. The campuses with the IT Support Services programming also compete in SkillsUSA competitions, which gives them real-world applications of skills and looks good on resumes and college applications.
