Fort Worth ISD News

Fort Worth ISD is home to several employees, students, and families of Native American descent, but Pamela Bennett at Edward J. Briscoe Elementary School has taken a lead in educating all children about Native American culture.

Bennett comes from Cherokee and Choctaw people, and in her after school program, students get the chance to learn about all kinds of tribes and traditions. Through beautiful crafts, she gives students an opportunity to learn in a way that is memorable and sparks their creativity.

She teaches students about dream catchers, birds and animals important to Native American culture, different flags, and more.

There are more than 20 tribes represented in Fort Worth ISD, and Bennett strives to teach students about as many of them as she can. Her grandmother taught her about her culture, and it instilled a love in her heritage and sharing about it in her.
