Academic Sweatshirt Award Ceremony

Nearly 1,000 FWISD high school juniors will be presented with the District’s distinguished academic sweatshirt for achieving a GPA of 3.8 or higher at a ceremony, Thursday, December 7.

The annual Academic Sweatshirt Award Ceremony sponsored by FWISD and Lockheed Martin recognizes students who completed their sophomore year in high school with a GPA of 3.8 or better. The students are presented with a sweatshirt with the initials of their school, the academic banner and the student’s monogram on the sleeve.

“The Academic Sweatshirt Award Ceremony recognizes the commitment to high expectations and consistent efforts these students have exhibited throughout their school careers,” said Brenda Carter, High School Programs of Choice Coordinator, the Advanced, Accelerated and Innovative Learning Department (AAIL).  “These students deserve recognition and praise.”

The Polytechnic Mariachi group, Mariachi Alas de Oro, is slated to perform at the event. Lockheed Martin is slated to have a one-tenth-scale model of its F-35 on display.

Established in 1989, the academic sweatshirt distinction was initially awarded to just 100 students. Now in its 28th year, FWISD has recognized more than 7,000 students with this distinction for achieving academic excellence.

The ceremony is an invitation-only event. Honorees must RSVP through their school’s academic office. For more details, contact Norma Burks, the event coordinator and District Academic Activities Coordinator for AAIL Department, at 817-814-2576 or by emailing
