Welcome to Vocal & Elementary Music
-
The Vocal and Elementary Music Department is designed to ignite and foster a life-long love of and involvement in music. Beginning in elementary school, each child has the opportunity to learn about vocal and instrumental music through songs, dances, and games from diverse cultures, as well as be engaged in concepts leading to music understanding and literacy.Secondary students continue to study vocal pedagogy and choral technique through participation in positive, rigorous ensemble settings. Choristers are offered experiences in classical music, contemporary a cappella, show choir, musical theatre, music theory, private voice, solo and audition preparation, and UIL assessments. More importantly, students are given a place of belonging and accountability; working towards artistic goals while supporting each other and finding power in their own voice. Our Vision: To provide each child with opportunities to explore and strengthen their musical abilities, their language and reasoning skills, their cognition and coordination; as well as give them a sense of achievement, personal confidence, self-expression, and creativity through an artistic lens. These experiences prepare 21st-century students for a more far-reaching workforce.
