Racial Equity Summit Registration Opens

Pre-registration is officially open for Fort Worth ISD’s second annual Racial Equity Summit.

The one-day summit will bring together the FWISD and Tarrant County communities for engaging conversations and seminars focused on racial equity and education. The event is set for 8 a.m. Saturday, March 23 at the I.M. Terrell Academy for STEM and VPA.

FWISD students will be among the participants, presenters and performers at this year’s summit.

Register today and make plans to attend this dynamic event which promises engaging conversations about racial equity and seminars with a focus on racial identity. Participants will also have opportunities to strategize about advocacy tactics for education and building an anti-racism community and to address the community’s efforts at addressing racial inequities, said Shawn Lassiter, Racial Equity Summit organizer.

“Focusing on racial equity allows the community to start the conversation and find ways to work together to address the achievement gaps in our school system which has traditionally had a negative impact on our communities of color,” said Shawn Lassiter, Racial Equity Summit organizer. “[The summit will] address personal, professional, and organizational implicit bias; racial disparities, systemic racism, and cultural barriers that hold us back as a district and society to making good on our promise to prepare ALL students for success in college, career and community leadership.”

Last year, more than 320 people attended the summit, which encouraged attendees to engage in courageous conversations about race, expand their racial consciousness and make action plans for addressing racial inequities.
