FWISD Culinary Students Advance to State FCCLA Contest

Culinary students from Fort Worth ISD’s South Hills and Trimble Tech high schools are competing at the Texas FCCLA State Leadership Conference April 4-6 in Dallas.fccla

More than 20 students from the two high schools will represent the District in the competition after qualifying for state at the Family, Career and Community Leaders of America (FCCLA) 2019 Region II Leadership Conference, hosted February 21-23 in Waco.  

South Hills sophomore Lester Flores finished fourth in the region’s Cupcake Battle Senior competition, which qualified him for the state finals. Linda Rogers, career and technical education culinary arts teacher, is South Hill’s FCCLA chapter adviser.

The following culinary students placed at the region contest in the respective categories and will represent Trimble Tech in the Texas FCCLA State Leadership Conference:

  • Mystery Basket Occupational: Senior Elizabeth Canales, first place
  • Culinary Mathematics Occupational: Juniors Miriam Perez, Orlando Palacios, and Maria Hernandez, first place; Senior Stephanie Murillo and junior Adrian Ornelas, second place 
  • Entrepreneurship Jr.: Freshmen Amrandy Flandez, Guadalupe Mora, and Destiny Duque, second place 
  • Entrepreneurship Occupational: Juniors Kimberly Sanchez and Paola Martinez, and senior Anna Loera, first place
  • Hospitality and Tourism Occupational: Juniors Alexandra Gonzalez and Rayven Barnaba and sophomore Daniela Del Rio, first place; Sophomores Jazmine Campos, Sabrina Perales and Kimberly Castro, second place
  • Sports Nutrition Jr.: Freshmen Haydden Rice and Sebastian Mendoza, fourth place
  • Sports Nutrition Occupational: Junior Sade Muhammad, fourth place 

CTE instructors Natasha Bruton and Heather Kurima are advisers to Trimble Tech’s FCCLA chapter.
