FWISD Offers Drive-up Healthy Food Pantry on August 28
WHAT: Free, drive-up food distribution of fruits and vegetables for FWISD students and families
WHEN: Friday, August 28, 2020, 1-2 p.m.
WHERE: Alice Contreras Elementary School, 4100 Lubbock Avenue, Fort Worth, TX
SUMMARY: The healthy food pantry at Fort Worth ISD’s Alice Contreras Elementary School will offer drive-up food distribution of fresh fruits and vegetables for students and their families on Friday, August 28, 2020, 1-2 p.m.
Additional drive-up fresh food distributions are planned for Sept. 4 and Sept. 18 at Alice Contreras Elementary. Daggett Middle School’s pantry will also soon convert to a drive-up.
The unique school pantry provides fresh food choices in addition to traditional shelf-stable products. Temporarily shifting the pantry from an indoor location to a drive-up site offers a safer, no-contact process for volunteers to place boxes of food into vehicle trunks. Guests will line up in cars, and staff will fill out all paperwork to ensure eligibility. No one will be turned away.
Fort Worth ISD started its healthy food pantry program in November 2019 at Daggett Middle School and launched the Alice Contreras Elementary School pantry in January 2020. The initiative is supported by North Texas Healthy Communities and Blue Zones Project.
