Four FWISD Soccer Teams to Compete in Regional Quarterfinal Round
Four Fort Worth ISD soccer teams advanced past the area round and into the regional quarterfinals. Benbrook is still representing Fort Worth ISD in the girls’ playoffs and all three boys 4A teams that competed in the area round advanced to the regional quarterfinal. All three boys 5A teams were eliminated in the area round to cap off fantastic seasons.
Benbrook eliminated Brownwood from the playoffs by a score of 2-1. Campbell Cox scored both goals for Benbrook in the win, including the go-ahead goal with five minutes left in the game. With the two goals, Cox brought her playoff total to five after a hat trick in the bi-district round. Benbrook (16-5-2) will face Salado on Friday, Mar. 31 at 7 p.m. at Temple’s Wildcat Stadium. The winner of that game takes on the winner of Wichita Falls and Amarillo West Plains in the regional semifinal.
Diamond Hill-Jarvis continued its dominance in the playoffs with a 6-0 shutout of Brownwood. Ricardo Gonzalez led the way offensively with a hat trick to account for half of the goals the Eagles scored. Alex Ibarra scored two goals and Edward Zuniga chipped in one goal. Ibarra finished with two assists while Zuniga, Angel Resendiz, Josh Montañez and Jovanny Castruita each contributed one assist. Diamond Hill-Jarvis (25-1-1) faces Stephenville in the regional quarterfinal on Friday, Mar. 31 at 7 p.m. at Weatherford’s Kangaroo Stadium. The winner of that game will face the winner of Wichita Falls and El Paso Irvin in the regional semifinal round.
Carter-Riverside (9-11-4) advanced to the regional quarterfinal by way of a 1-0 victory over Salado. Juan Lopez assisted a Rodrigo Venegas goal and that was all it took for the Eagles to advance. Western Hills (18-5) used a strong second half to eliminate Life Waxahachie 4-2 in the area round. Western Hills and Carter-Riverside both advance to the regional quarterfinal round to face one another. Western Hills won both regular season matchups with Carter-Riverside, winning 2-1 on Feb. 21 and winning 1-0 on Jan. 28. Western Hills takes on Carter-Riverside on Friday, Mar. 31 at 7 p.m. at FWISD’s Farrington Field. The winner secures a spot in the regional semifinal to face the winner of San Elizario and El Paso Riverside.
Fort Worth ISD congratulates Arlington Heights, North Side and South Hills on a fantastic season that ended after winning a playoff game! FWISD wishes good luck to all its teams competing in the regional quarterfinal and hopes to see three teams competing in the regional semifinal! Be sure to get out to Farrington Field, Weatherford or Temple to support our student-athletes as they compete in the third round of the playoffs!
